Marketa Qigong for Back Pain

By Marketa Pavlacikova White Tiger Qigong Instructor In today's modern society a sedentary lifestyle has become a norm. We don’t even realize that our bodies naturally intended for movement, are slowly perishing. Stress of busy life, sitting behind computer for long hours, walking with phones, driving in cars, and sitting once again, when we return home tired and stressed, comes with a high price. Some of the results that have become increasingly common are neck and back pain, back injuries, and conditions like sciatica. These issues not only affect our physical well-being but also hinder our daily activities and overall quality of life. While there are various treatment approaches available, one practice that has gained significant attention for its effectiveness is qigong for back pain, specifically the 5 Animal Qigong. This ancient Chinese exercise system combines movement, breathing techniques, and meditation. This qigong offers numerous benefits for individuals suffering from back related ailments.

5 Animal Qigong for Back Pain

5 Animal Qigong is an ancient Taoist medical branch of Qigong. This traditional Chinese therapeutic practice rooted in Taoist philosophy focuses on cultivating and balancing the body's vital energy, known as Qi. This Qigong practice derives its name from the imitation of movement of five different animals - Tiger, Deer, Bear, Monkey, and Crane. Each animal represents specific movements and postures that mimic their physical characteristics and traits. Each animal's movements correspond to specific meridians and internal organs. It also targets different areas of the body, including the spine and back. Because of their emphasis on maintaining smooth Qi and blood circulation, these internal arts have been commonly used for centuries to maintain body health and to extend life span.

Chinese Medicine’s Approach to Health and Vitality

In ancient Chinese medicine, the most important key to attaining health and healing is the free flow of Qi in the body’s meridian system. Qi needs to flow smoothly and abundantly through a continuous cycle in our bodies. This cycle promotes the cleansing, detoxification, healing and nourishment of our internal organs. This is crucial for maintaining good health and a keeping our bodies strong, subtle, and flexible. Constant stress of daily modern life and sedentary lifestyle are leading factors to accumulation of toxins, creation of blockages and stagnation of energy flow through out bodies. These blockages lead to various ailments, pains, diseases and discomforts. Therefore, it is very important to keep our energy channels open and maintain a clear unobstructed path for our Qi (energy) to flow freely. With regular practice, we can learn how to regulate the abnormal Qi circulation and strengthen our body’s vital force. At the same time, these dynamic, controlled, targeted, stretching, twisting, and bending movements guided by deep breathing and intention help to rebalance our posture. This also help improve flexibility and elasticity of our fascia (connective tissue network in the body). Also, this movements help strengthen, lengthen, and soften our spine, muscles, and joints.
